Hutchinson to adjudicate Bugle 2020

- News -

We are delighted to announce that we have secured the services of Tom Hutchinson, one of the foremost players and musicians in the brass band world, as the adjudicator for our 96th Annual Festival at Bugle on Saturday 20th June 2020.

Tom began learning the cornet at the age of nine and joined his local brass band, Stannington. As an early teenager he joined Barnsley Building Society Band and quickly ascended to the position of Principal Cornet, followed by the same role, aged 15, at Championship Band Rothwell Temperance.

During these formative years Tom also played Solo Cornet with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain including two courses as leader. Dr Nicholas Childs, invited him to join the world famous Black Dyke Band, where he played for 4 years, initially as Repiano Cornet with promotion at the age of eighteen, to Tutti Solo Cornet.

After graduating from The Royal Northern College of Music in 2009, Tom was invited to join the mighty Cory Band, ranked as the No. 1 band in the world, as Principal Cornet. The lure of sitting on the ‘end chair’ with a band that was holding the titles of British Open, European and World Champion Bands was too great an opportunity to turn down.

As well as playing Principal Cornet with the Cory Band, he is a Professor of Cornet at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, a Besson Artist and Brass specialist with Eventz Music, Cornet Tutor for the National Youth Brass Band of Wales and Cornet Tutor for the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain.
